I know that everyone wants to add going to the gym and eating healthier to their New Year's resolutions to help better themselves. However, I have an idea for a resolution that will help not only oneself but the entire planet. Let's make it a New Year's resolution to switch to sustainable products! In this post, I will discuss some beauty companies that create products that would make a great addition to anyone's beauty and self-care routines. These recommendations are great for anyone interested in pampering themselves and the planet, at the same time.

Kitsch

My first recommendation is the beauty brand Kitsch. This company works to bring its customers sustainable hair and body products that are affordable and effective. They sell a variety of products, from hair clips to stainless steel gua shas! I personally love using their products in my hair care routine. Kitsch partakes in eco-conscious practices like implementing biodegradable packaging and recyclable/reusable materials, and, all around, tries to reduce waste. The company is also a certified 4Ocean cleanup partner. For those who do not know, 4Ocean is a for-profit company whose mission is to clean our beautiful oceans and use their profits to power taking the plastics out of our seas. Kitsch has a "Buy 1 to Pull 1 partnership" with 4Ocean and plans to "pull over 175,000 pounds of trash from the world's oceans, rivers, and coastlines"(Kitsch.com). This means that even by simply purchasing a product from Kitsch, you are helping to fund the betterment of the planet! Overall, Kitsch is finding ways to eliminate waste in the beauty and self-care space. I believe that their mindfulness of the environment and helping to protect it, combined with their amazing hair and body products will make them a company with longevity and impact.

Two special products that I highly recommend are their Solid Shampoo and Conditioner Bars. The bars help eliminate plastic overuse due to the paper packaging. According to the Kitsch website, using one of these bars "saves 2 bottles of liquid shampoo & conditioner." Another favorite of mine is their XL satin bonnet. I have super big, curly hair and this is the only bonnet that fits all of my hair and does not come off in the middle of the night. The satin used to make it is OEKO-TEX certified and is sustainable and environmentally friendly. Kitsch has plenty of other eco-friendly hair products that I think are worth a try. With the brand's amazing product designs and packaging, using their products keeps you cute and conscious!

Kjaer Weis

Kjaer Weis is a luxury makeup brand that specializes in sustainability. This luxury brand creates an array of makeup and face products, making it easy to do a stunning full face. Sustainable beauty has never been so luxurious. Kjaer Weis's approach to environmentally friendly products includes using organic plants in their formulas and high-quality, sustainable, refillable packaging. The company uses recycled paper and metals to create the packaging of its products. This helps reduce waste because not only is the company using old materials to create new products, but it is also making reusable products for users so they do not have to throw away the packaging once they are empty.

Three of the company's best-selling products the Cream Eye Shadow, Cream Foundation, and Cream Blush all come in thin recyclable, and refillable metal tins and have five-star reviews from customers. What I love about Kjaer Weis is that they provide a wide selection of shades and colors for you to choose from. They show that you don't have to compromise variety while shopping for sustainable makeup products. Regarding pricing, Kjaer Weis is a luxury brand so their price range is a bit more than what you'd find at your local drugstore. However, I would say that their pricing is comparable to brands you would find at Sephora and Ulta.

Some Kjaer Weis products can be found and purchased on Amazon. I have provided a link to the Cream Blush that I have discussed.

Typology.

Typology is another sustainable makeup company committed to creating products with a low negative environmental impact. Like Kjaer Weis, they offer a variety of makeup products for their consumers. They also make other face care products like moisturizers, sun care, serums, and more! Their make-up products are known for acting as elevated skin care due to all of the beneficial, skin-enhancing ingredients within them. The company is based in France and is known for its minimalistic but unique package designs and formulas.

Typology is working to reduce plastic overuse and increase recycling by packaging its products in glass, aluminum, recycled plastic bottles, and FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) paper. According to the company's website, "Glass is an easily recyclable material, and the industry is highly developed in France and most other countries" (Typology.com). On their website, they go into more detail about why glass is a great sustainable option. Using aluminum for their tubes is a great option because this material can be recycled and reused many times. FSC paper is certified paper that has not been unethically sourced from illegal deforestation meaning that the trees used to make the paper have come from sustainable forests (Typology.com).

The company's products are also formulated with natural ingredients that are not harsh. Typology's goal is to provide products with ingredients that are not unnecessary to their effectiveness and do not harm the environment or its users. On their website you can see a list of the ingredients Typology refuses to use and why. You can also find the ingredient lists of each product. Typology likes to keep the amount of ingredients used in each product short and sweet, none of the nonessential stuff. Like Kjaer Weis, Typology is on the more expensive side. This is because you are paying for high-quality ingredients and other resources the company puts into creating sustainable products.

Below I have linked some of Typology's most raved-about products I have seen on TikTok and other social media platforms!

Izzy

Next up, we have another company that understands the power of reusable packaging! Izzy is a makeup brand that envisions and is creating a zero-waste makeup industry. Izzy's system is similar to Kjaer Weis's in terms of reusable packaging, but Izzy takes it one step further. Instead of ordering refills for your makeup products and having them delivered to you, with Izzy's products, you send your product containers back to Izzy, they refill it and ship it right back to you! Izzy's most popular product is their Zero Waste Mascara. However, the company sells many other makeup products, from Zero Waste Glossy Lip Butter to the Zero Waste Brow Gel!

Izzy works by sending customers a 90-day supply of product. Once you run out, you send your original container back to the factory in a "Zero Waste Reusable Shipper with no outer packaging" (Izzy.com), and they clean and refill it and send it back to you in the same shipper! It is a unique and conservative process that I think many makeup and self-care brands should adopt. This is an effective way to eliminate waste build-up from constantly purchasing new containers of products once you run out. The reusable shipper is made of recycled materials, and Izzy products contain "94% less plastic than the leading brands" (Izzy.com). 87.5% of their products are packaged in stainless steel, which will last a long time and reduce waste. Izzy is a great option for anyone looking to try eco-conscious makeup products that will elevate their look and the environment.

If you guys decide to try any of these products, I hope that you enjoy them. Hopefully, adding any of these brands' products to your makeup or skincare/body care routines helps elevate your self-care and increase the use of sustainable beauty. At the end of the day, the goal is to find environmentally friendly products and companies that we can buy from, that we love to use, and that are effective and positively impact our planet.
